Moise Kean was rushed to hospital after collapsing on the pitch during Fiorentina's loss to Hellas Verona.
The former Premier League striker was stretchered off in worrying scenes at Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi.
Concerned players rushed over to Kean before medical staff treated him on the pitch.
The Italian had fallen to the ground during the second half after a collision with Verona pair Pawel Dawidowicz and Diego Coppola.
Kean was accidentally kneed in the head by Dawidowicz as he fell to the floor whilst grappling for possession.
The incident left the 24-year-old with a gash above his left eye, with play stopped whilst he received treatment.

Fiorentina’s medical staff were able to patch Kean up with a bandage wrapped round his head as he made his way off the pitch.
He then returned to the pitch only to fall to the ground with no one around him moments later.
As a result, the forward received more treatment before he was stretchered off and taken to hospital.
In a statement, the Viola confirmed: "ACF Fiorentina announces that the footballer Moise Kean, during the match against Verona, suffered a head trauma. The footballer is in hospital for tests."

He was later released from hospital overnight.
In a further update, Fiorentina said: “During the night, Moise Kean was discharged from the Verona hospital and has returned to Florence.
“All clinical and diagnostic tests performed came back negative.”
Once play resumed, Verona snatched victory in stoppage time thanks to a goal from Antoine Bernede.
The result leaves Fiorentina sixth in the table, five points adrift of the top four.
Kean joined Raffaele Palladino's side from Juventus in the summer, signing a five-year deal through to 2029.
He has since scored 19 goals in 29 appearances across all competitions for the club.
The Italy international previously spent four years at Everton between 2019 and 2023.
During that time, he made 32 Premier League appearances for the Toffees, scoring twice.
