Fernandes hat-trick seals Man United progress, Rangers beat Fenerbahce on penalties

The Europa League and Europa Conference League round of 16 ties are over, meaning we have the quarter-finalists.

In north London, Tottenham Hotspur beat AZ Alkmaar 3-1 to progress into the last eight, where they will play Eintracht Frankfurt.

Manchester United also made it to the quarter-finals after thrashing Real Sociedad 4-1, including a Bruno Fernandes hat-trick.

Rangers also sealed another famous night at Ibrox despite losing 2-0 to Fenerbahce on the night.

That took the tie to extra time and penalties and Jack Butland was the hero with two stops.

In the Conference League, Chelsea made it into the last eight after a 1-0 win over Copenhagen.

    RANGERS ARE INTO THE QUARTER-FINALS OF THE EUROPA LEAGUE!

    Mert Hakan Yandas had to score, and he delivered a penalty that is still rising.

    That means Rangers have pulled off another famous night at Ibrox.

    The Gers will play Athletic Bilbao in the next round, and there will be some scenes in Glasgow tonight.

    The Romanian strikes towards the bottom left corner, but Irfan Can Egribayat brilliantly tips it onto the post.

    The centre-back runs up, stutters and sends Jack Butland the wrong way.

    The Rangers star strides up and lashes his penalty down the middle of the goal.

    Dusan Tadic steps up to take the first one.

    He tries to drill the strike down the middle, but Butland leaves a leg out and makes the stop.

    Well, this one is going to be decided via a penalty shootout.

    Rangers have thrown away a two-goal lead and will now need their players to step up and deliver.

  • Rangers 0-2 Fenerbahce (3-3) - NO PENALTY

    Fenerbahce are adamant they should have a penalty for a foul by Nicolas Raskin.

    There is barely any contact on the away player, but Jose Mourinho is adamant.

    The Portuguese head coach is furious, and he finds himself in the book.

    That is an excellent save!

    Rangers are awarded free-kick on the edge of the box.

    James Tavernier steps up, and he gets the effort over the wall and towards the top corner.

    However, Irfan Can Egribayat gets across his goal well and makes a very good stop.

  • Rangers 0-2 Fenerbahce (3-3) - EXTRA TIME

    It could still be a famous night at Ibrox, but equally, we could also be about to see another famous Jose Mourinho win.

    Fenerbahce were 3-1 down from the first leg, but they've taken this one to extra time.

    The Turkish giants have been excellent, and the home crowd have been well and truly quietened down.

    But this tie could go either way.

  • Man United 4-1 Real Sociedad (5-2) - FULL TIME

    It's a huge win at Old Trafford for Manchester United, and they are into the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

    Bruno Fernandes scored a hat-trick and made history in a top performance from the Man United captain.

    The Red Devils arguably turned in their best display of the season against the Spanish side, who opened the scoring but ended the match with ten men.

    But Ruben Amorim won't care, and Man United still have a chance of winning a European trophy.

  • Tottenham 3-1 AZ Alkmaar (3-2) - FULL TIME

    It was a must-win game for Tottenham, and they've done just that!

    Wilson Odobert was the hero for Spurs with a double as they overturned the 1-0 deficit from the first leg.

    The pressure was well and truly on Ange Postecoglou before this match, with some suggesting he would be sacked if they lost.

    But after a shaky and nervous start, they took control of the tie and deservedly progress to the next round.

    HAT-TRICK HERO!

    Bruno Fernandes has well and truly delivered for Manchester United this evening.

    Alejandro Garnacho does well in midfield and slips a pass towards the captain.

    Fernandes strides through and buries a strike into the bottom corner.

    Manchester United are awarded a spot kick, but it is overturned.

    The ball is played down the left into the box for Patrick Dorgu.

    He goes down under a challenge, and the referee points to the spot.

    However, Dorgu tells the referee that isn't a penalty, and the decision is overturned.

    Fair play to the young man.

    Fenerbahce are level on the night, and it is more useless defending!

    Mert Muldur bundles his way through a challenge on the right and gets into the box.

    He pulls the ball back for Sebastien Szymanski, who squeezes a shot through Jack Butland, and as it stands, we are going to extra time.

    It's a great move as Djed Spence is played in down the left, and he drives in a cross.

    Dominic Solanke tries to score with a backheel that turns into a lovely pass for Wilson Odobert.

    Well, Bruno Fernandes has put himself into the history books.

    By scoring that penalty in the first half, he has now converted nine in the Europa League.

    That is more than any other player has ever managed in the competition.

    So, not only is he scoring crucial goals for his team, he is also creating new records.
