Rangers' trip to face Manchester United in the Europa league was marred by fan trouble both inside and outside Old Trafford.
Thousands of Gers fans travelled to England for the game - the first time since November 2010 - that the sides had faced each other.
But while the match itself ended with a 2-1 victory for Manchester United, it was off the pitch where the more fiery action occurred.
Video clips on social media appeared to show fans of both sides clashing with each other in Manchester in the lead up to the game.
A heavy police presence was required as they aimed to keep the peace but fans could be seen throwing bottles and other missiles at each other from opposite ends of a street.
Greater Manchester Police say 39 arrests were made for a variety of offences, including 26 for the disorder on Great Ancoats Street.

The scenes weren't just limited to outside of the ground either with a number of Rangers fans seen breaching the home end at Old Trafford.
A number of away supporters had been able to purchase tickets in the home end.
Footage of the fans singing on the concourse was widely shared online.
A Man United statement read: "In anticipation of the risks around tonight’s game, we took the strictest possible measures to prevent sales to away fans in home areas

"Tickets were only allocated to people who existed on our database prior to the draw taking place in August. Hospitality tickets had the same restrictions applied.
"Tickets forwarded by season ticket-holders and members also had the same restrictions applied (i.e. they could only be forwarded to fans on our database prior to the draw).
"Whilst the unauthorised touting of tickets has become more difficult since our introduction of in-app digital ticketing, it cannot be completely eliminated.
"All examples of away fans in home areas will be investigated over the coming days, with the strongest possible sanctions taken against the registered holders."
Fans had been urged not to travel for the match amid fears over Storm Eowyn.
The Met Office issued red warnings nationwide, with 100mph winds expected up and down the UK over the next 24 hours.
But that didn't stop Rangers' fans heading south and making their presence felt.
The topic of Rangers' fans travelling to Manchester had been discussed earlier in the day on 90mins with host Simon Jordan critical of those who opted to journey down without a ticket.
He said: "I don't understand it. I understand that they want to be in and around that environment but I'd have thought they'd want to be in an environment where they can celebrate in their own space rather than being in someone else's town and being on the other side of the argument where they get beat.
"I don't think it's a great thing because it creates problems in of itself because we've seen situations where fans turn up to places without tickets and it creates a problem.
"If you've got history and don't take lessons from the past then you're doomed or in danger of repeating and I don't think society is in a happier place or that we're in a better place in terms of how fans behave themselves so why would we expect a different outcome."
The Red Devils took the lead in the first half through Jack Butland's own goal.
It looked as though the Scottish giants were going to get a point when Cyriel Dessers expertly controlled a high ball before firing the ball past Man United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir on 88 minutes.

But Ruben Amorim's side had the final say as Bruno Fernandes slotted home a cross from the left in stoppage time.
Man United's win puts them firmly in contention to progress to the last eight of the Europa League, while Rangers now look destined to have to contend with a play-off round if they hope to advance.
